altered clockface

Hi all ...
Some time ago my wonderful blog friend Anne encouraged me to apply for the blogger outreach program the decoart company is running. I SO love and adore their delicious and very versatile products, all the more since I've been so lucky to join various of Sir Andy's workshops, live and online.
I already have a small stock of their stuff and thought I'd start with kind of a rusty steampunk clockface. Hence I purchased a clock in a € store, it's about 34cm in diameter.
This project was done for the de stempelwinkel designteam blog.

supplies used
from decoart
(and stampendous)

others
gesso
sanding block
acrylic paint bronze
embossing ink
cogs die
foam paint roller
stampendous embossing enamel aged copper
various acrylic paints from my stash

First I dismantled the clock :-) and primed the clockface with gesso.
Then I started experimenting on how to apply paint onto it without that looking gruesome ... Mark , my wonderfully talented and imaginative blogfriend who is a member of the international decoart design team, saved me - once more - by suggesting to try a foam paint roller, which I did. Now it was trial and error, sanding back colour, adding colour (washes of quin gold, a little white ...) until I was satisfied somewhat. It still looked a bit naked so I stamped the background, finally I added some of the embossing enamel and sealed everything with Decoart ultra matte varnish.

I die cut the cogs from rather thin cardboard and dry embossed them after I painted them with silver acrylic paint. Then layers and washes of  various other acrylic paints were added and sanded back (aquamarine, blue green light, quin gold, black). For the numbers I experimented with a slightly different technique.
When all the single parts were done I wrapped some wire around the clockface and added the pieces.
Unfortunately the clock doesn't work anymore - no surprise there - but I think it's still kind of an eyecatcher when it will be hanging on the wall ...

Hope you like this a bit.

Hugs, Suzanne xx

Mail Art Envelope

Second post for today - thanks for bearing with me :-)
After quite some time I'm happy to join the Art Journey Challenge again, one of my favorite challenges.
This time the gorgeously talented DT asks for mail art envelopes and I made two pieces.

For the first one I cut a few freehand clouds and masked them as well as a piece of paper to keep the space for the address clear. The background was sponged with several distress ink pads, trying to blend the colors together. Then I stamped various AJ stamps onto it and colored them lightly with watercolor pencils.

For the second one - with matching postcard - I used the gelli printing plate and a few stencils to create the background. Then here too several of those adorable AJ images were stamped, they have stunning steampunk stamps among others. I used watercolor pencils on those too to give the images a bit of color.

Thanks a bunch for taking the time and stopping by. Have a lovely day all of you, sun is shining around here and I really hope it will stay a bit.

Captain's Logbook

Hi and hello to everyone.
It has been quite some time since I've been joining the HDH challenge and also this time I thought I wouldn't be able to. Pondered for days what I could do ... until this morning when I decided to enter  something that was right before my eyes and kept me busy for over a week LOL
So this is my Captain's Logbook, that I finished only last night (it's made from coasters - hope that's okay):
front
back
inside
I wanted to use bookrings but had set the eyelets too far from the edge so I had to figure out how else I could assemble it. That was what kept me busy.
I'm entering this into the HDH challenge #186 'steampunk junk'.
Stamps are from Stamper Anonymous designed by the exceptionally talented Brett Weldele, Oxford Impressions and Art Journey.

Thanks so much for stopping by and have a good day all of you.

a (steampunk?)rose for you ...

One of those cards that developed itself.
Somehow it reminds me of the 'Little Prince' with his rose.

The background is swiped through some DI iced spruce and weathered wood, then embossed with the riveted metal embossing folder and wiped over with some more iced spruce. Then I added some embossing ink here and there and sprinkled it with vintage photo emb. powder.
The butterfly is by chocolate baroque, stamped onto and cut out from one of my gelli plate prints. Into the wings I put two screw brads, also embossed with vintage photo. The rose is by chocolate baroque, too, just dabbed with distress stains peeled paint and rusty hinge and also sprinkled with emb. powder vintage photo. The guy is by one of my favorite shops: art journey.

Finally I added a weathered clock I found by accident in my chaos around me :-) I was just thinking hard about what I could add still because it looked so blank in some areas ...

Thank you so very much for looking.

considering Steampunk

a tag for the 'Tag It On' challenge #120, a recipe with the ingredients fantasy, inventions and Victoriana - hope it counts.
The (clock-)face of the groom is coated with crackle paint, which hasn't dried yet.
The background is distress inks and some dry embossing. On the right I added a piece of aluminum foil, also dry embossed and (hopefully) 'aged' with black acrylic paint and some inka gold.
Stamps are: paper artsy, oxford impressions, de stempelwinkel.

sprayed background with cogs / Zahnräder-HG

saw this on the blog from indigo blue stamps and had to try the background.
I'm not too happy with how the guys on the cards turned out ... first I stamped the images on a sprayed bg too, but that was too dark (and the second one looked like The Hulk - LOL). Then I used a similar bg as for the card itself. Hm hm ...

postscript:
Okay, I really don't like the guys this way ... I'll correct that in a few hours. So please concentrate on the background until then and just ignore the men :-))

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nevertheless, I'll enter these into the challenge on 'Simon says Stamp and Show' - spritz, spray, or stencil.

I tried several things to rescue the cards but I ran out of patience now.
So I'll leave the first card this way - hopefully improved a bit - and dumped (and deleted it here) the card with the Hulk, he didn't survive ...

Stamps are all by Oxford Impressions.

Thanks for stopping by,
have a great day!
