mini Voodoo Kit

Hi all ...
Long time no see .. I'm so sorry. But I won't go into details.
As a lucky member of the decoart outreach program I (see sidebar) I'm sharing a mini Voodoo kit in a shadow box today.

For the background I used the image transfer technique with the pic of a Voodoo doll from the web (not to be recognized anymore ;-)), applied crackle glaze clear and washed quin gold and yellow iron oxide into the cracks

I had a small mini Voodoo booklet for many, many years. From this I copied a few pages and aged the paper a bit (distress ink stains, Aquawax, quin gold ...).

I also had two knobs from a certain Swedish furniture shop that I rusted with reactive metallic paints and adhered them to either side of the box.

The little bottle has been treated with crackle glaze, matte medium and quin gold and wrapped with a rusted wire (vinegar, salt, water); the bottlecap was treated with reactive metallic paints again.

For the frame I used an Andy Skinner technique that he teaches in one of his online workshops, some decoart americana paints and antiquing cream burnt umber and carbon black.

Finally everything was assembled.

 

Products involved:

• Decoart Americana acrylic paints light and dark avocado, carbon black, yellow iron oxide.
• Decoart media fluid acrylics quin gold, paynes grey
• Decoart antiquing creams burnt umber, carbon black
• Decoart media crackle glaze clear
• Decoart media satin varnish matte
• Decoart matte medium

The background of the first one is a gelli plate print, the second one is made with AAIs. The second one was actually one of the 'flower cards' I tried to make, but I wasn't pleased with it at all. So I changed it :-D

Halloween Punk

Dreamcatcher

 Now for something completely different ...


The minions over at Haunted Design House ask for dimensional Halloween for their challenge #177.
I'm not sure if this meets the requirements.
My little one asked me for a dreamcatcher the other day, she saw one in a friend's bedroom. With a little help of the www I tried to make one myself - and this gave me the idea: why not try something Halloween-ish? I hope this counts:

 

It's my second one only, so please bear with me :-D

To ward off misunderstandings: the little one got another one, this is for me :-D
She loves it anyway, though. I fear my children are a wee bit influenced ...

I'm also entering this into the Country View challenge, where the fab DT wants to see something spooky - well, I hope it's spooky enough :-)

pumpkin tag

A tag I made from my new stamps and some leftovers.

The background has gone a long way ... I actually can't remember what went onto it in particular. In the end I stamped some darkroomdoor leaves onto it, added a bit of frantage embossing enamel at the bottom (the fence is covered with different frantage ee, too) and mounted it onto a piece of cardstock. The little pumpkin monster is cut out from a gelli plate print.

Did I mention that I'm enthusiastic about those little grumpy monsters? :-D

Bats, bats, bats ...

challenge #154 over at Haunted Design House: Bats in the Belfry.
We are to 'create a dark, Gothic or Halloween-based piece that has anything to do with bats'.

Now this time I dared to do something bigger and a little more elaborat than a card :-) in honor of the BATs, some of  the most adorable and fascinating creatures on earth. Just love them ...

So I decided to do a mirror.
First I glued down pre-cut and torn scraps from patterned paper and dictionary pages. Then I stamped the haunted house with a flock of bats from paper artsy/hot pick in the bottom left corner (sponged it a little bit with green, grey and purple ink), in the background I stamped a spider web by Tim Holtz and a little flock of bats (also paper artsy) several times.

Then I covered the frame with a coat of craft glue and sprayed it with mixtures of distress reinker and water (iced spruce, dusty concord and shabby shutters) and some glimmer mist slate for good measure. Then I scattered different cut-out bat stamps all over the frame.

At first I glued the hanging bats onto the frame and the barbed wire has been stamped in black, so nothing really to recognise properly. Also I outlined the bats with white because they've been too dark which didn't look very good.
In the end I stamped the barbed wire again with silver acrylic paint dabber, stamped the bats again on grey cardstock and cut them out generously to cover the white outlining. I adhered them with 3d pads and tried to complete the wire on the cardstock. Finally I added a metal ornate plate with the word BATS in case someone would miss it's all about bats this time LOL
So in the end it looks better than the first attempt :-) Hope some of you like it, too.

I think it's quite funny how people dig up their various kinds of bats :-D

This one is just the scrap I covered the mirror with, but I think I might do something with it, though ...

I also like to enter this project into the Artful Times challenge #15: fur or feathers (I'd so love to stroke a bat's fur and hold such a little cutie in my hand ... :-D), and the 'Anything but a card challenge #4: Fall or Halloween or Fall Colors' - I think this definitely fits for Halloween :-)
Usually I'm not the challenge hopper but since at the moment there are Halloween challenges everywhere and I sadly am not able to do as many things as I'd love to, I'll make an exception.

the background is a wild and spontanous mix of dylusion sprays, colorwash, distress stain picket fence, smears of paint dabber silver metallic, pan pastel white and somewhere underneath there must be a cover-a-card stamp with versamark ...
the flock of bats on the left is loosely sprinkled with some embossing powder black with a little glitter of white and red.

Halloween in Green ...

On the blog of the adorably talented Tracy Evans I spotted an absolute stunning card with a background from green Dylusion Sprays. While I had my Stampotiques out for some reason I played a little bit around with those sprays and stamps ...
Of course the results are only a pale imitation ;-) but I had great fun! :-))

Stamps: Stampotique, Paper Artsy Hot Pick (bats, bottle), Katzelkraft (clockface), de Stempelwinkel (skull)

The skull is a template I got at the 'Mekka' stamp fair, it's by Lost Coast Design.
Stamps: Hot pick (October 31st), Chocolate Baroque (sentiment), Hot Pick (skull border).

For the bat I glued some cut outs together and coated them with glossy after I dotted the eyes with red stickles.
Stamps: Hot Picks (October 31st, tree), Stampotique.

The splatters are by Tim Holtz.
