What I consider my 'superpower' in real life is silent observation. It's an indefinite source of learning and getting to know people. You can learn and experience so much and so many things if you observe and listen. And people tend to tell/reveal many interesting things and thoughts ...

Journal spread with Decoart goodies

pimped notebook

Hi everyone ...
I'm so sorry I haven't been around for some time. Life - you know.
As a member of the blogger outreach program I pimped a notebook. It was plain silver and I didn't like its look.

At first I primed everything with gesso. For the front cover I used the peeled paint technique as a background and added modeling paste throuhj stencils, Andy's snake's web.. Finally I applied some paints and metallic lustre with a small piece of cut'n dry foam. The cover was sealed with decoupage glue in the end.

On the back I stencilled Andy's sculduggery and painted everything over with paynes grey.This was rubbed off in some areas and more paint was added.

another note holder block

Again a little project with those gorgeous yummieh decoart products.
As a thank you for a coworker who is extremely kind and ready to help throughout the year I made a note holder.

It's from a wooden block that I painted with Americana tradidtions blue green light and media fluids phtalo green blue. Around the edges some reactive metallic paint was used to make it rusty. Then came a little bit of stamping that I covered with two step crackle, the cracks were highlighted with media fluids quin gold.
Those colours were also used to make the background for the cover, they were scraped onto cardstock with a palette knife.
Everything was sealed with media varnish utra matte and the cover was laminated.

A ring binder was also rusted and fastened with screws.
To fill the note holder I used cut up paper from my office work (upcycling is the keyword ;-)) to take notes and - separated by a postcard to color in - a stack of paper I had printed with doodle prompts.

Mailbox

Hi all ... I hope you're well wherever you are.
My DT piece for today over on the de stempelwinkel designteam blog is a mailbox I made with products from Decoart.
All stamp imags are by De Stempelwinkel, NL.

First of all: sorry for the pic's poor quality, there simply doesn't seem to be a place to take decent shots around the house.

Now after priming the box with gesso I painted it with two different colours of chalk paint (rouge, yesteryear), sanded it back and sealed the panels with créme wax. Finally the images were stamped with stazon inkpad jet black.

For the second bigger side some stamps were sponged with vintage photo, spritzed with water, crumpled up and heat dried. After I adhered them with glossy accents I stamped over them and glued down the letters that I painted with reactice metal paints beforehand; those I shadowed with a wash of paynes grey acrylic paint. In the end all panels were splattered with diluted acrylic paint.

mini Voodoo Kit

Hi all ...
Long time no see .. I'm so sorry. But I won't go into details.
As a lucky member of the decoart outreach program I (see sidebar) I'm sharing a mini Voodoo kit in a shadow box today.

For the background I used the image transfer technique with the pic of a Voodoo doll from the web (not to be recognized anymore ;-)), applied crackle glaze clear and washed quin gold and yellow iron oxide into the cracks

I had a small mini Voodoo booklet for many, many years. From this I copied a few pages and aged the paper a bit (distress ink stains, Aquawax, quin gold ...).

I also had two knobs from a certain Swedish furniture shop that I rusted with reactive metallic paints and adhered them to either side of the box.

The little bottle has been treated with crackle glaze, matte medium and quin gold and wrapped with a rusted wire (vinegar, salt, water); the bottlecap was treated with reactive metallic paints again.

For the frame I used an Andy Skinner technique that he teaches in one of his online workshops, some decoart americana paints and antiquing cream burnt umber and carbon black.

Finally everything was assembled.

notepad holder - now complete

Hi all ...

having the honour to be part of the DecoArt Blogger Outreach Program I thought it's high time I'd share another project I made with a bunch of their yummie products I wouldn't for the life of me miss from my craft supplies.


When I was a child I used to be fascinated by a desktop calender my general practitioner used to keep on his desk.
These days I came by a similar thing when I browsed the internet and made a little research on where I could by it... but the items I found were way too expensive for a wood panel and some ring binding. But that's why we are crafters for: I decided to make something similar myself.

supplies used:

Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint

relic and yesteryear

Americana Decor finish cream wax brown

Decoart Media crackle glaze 

Decoart antiquing cream green patina, burnt umber and carbon black

The wood panel was quite inexpensive at the local hardware store :-)

I sanded it, painted it with chalky finish paint and instead of cream wax I covered it w ith antiquing creams carbon black and burnt umber, Everything was sealed. Then I added crackle glaze in some spots and when dry I rubbed antiquing cream into the cracks. The skull tower and the skull images (all stamps from De Stempelwinkel) were stamped with stazon jet black.
I used a ring binder and mounted it onto the wood panel.
The small sheets of notepaper are recycled too. We have quite some used exercise books the children only filled partly. I took the remaining pages and cut them to fit. Finally I stamped some images onto them, too.

wooden box with and for Decoart products

Hi all ...
I feel both chuffed and honoured that I've been accepted as a member of the blogger outreach program (see sidebar) from decoart.
Today I'd like to share a woodcrate I purchased from IK*A that screamed for a makeover.

The box came in natural wood - and in pieces :-) 

The panels were covered with stain blocker first. Then a layer of relic resp. remembrance chalky finish were added and the stencil was 'sponged' through, I also used relic for this. Now came the sanding ... and I still have a blister on my thumb. Finally everything was sealed with crème wax and matte varnish, then assembled.

It's perfect to store my decoart acrylic paints, I think :-D

altered clockface

Hi all ...
Some time ago my wonderful blog friend Anne encouraged me to apply for the blogger outreach program the decoart company is running. I SO love and adore their delicious and very versatile products, all the more since I've been so lucky to join various of Sir Andy's workshops, live and online.
I already have a small stock of their stuff and thought I'd start with kind of a rusty steampunk clockface. Hence I purchased a clock in a € store, it's about 34cm in diameter.
This project was done for the de stempelwinkel designteam blog.

First I dismantled the clock :-) and primed the clockface with gesso.
Then I started experimenting on how to apply paint onto it without that looking gruesome ... Mark , my wonderfully talented and imaginative blogfriend who is a member of the international decoart design team, saved me - once more - by suggesting to try a foam paint roller, which I did. Now it was trial and error, sanding back colour, adding colour (washes of quin gold, a little white ...) until I was satisfied somewhat. It still looked a bit naked so I stamped the background, finally I added some of the embossing enamel and sealed everything with Decoart ultra matte varnish.

I die cut the cogs from rather thin cardboard and dry embossed them after I painted them with silver acrylic paint. Then layers and washes of  various other acrylic paints were added and sanded back (aquamarine, blue green light, quin gold, black). For the numbers I experimented with a slightly different technique.
When all the single parts were done I wrapped some wire around the clockface and added the pieces.
Unfortunately the clock doesn't work anymore - no surprise there - but I think it's still kind of an eyecatcher when it will be hanging on the wall ...
