some background experiments

while I've been at my tag for the TIO challenge yesterday I experimented a little with backgrounds.
Originally I wanted to do this absolutely fabulous looking background by Roni: the black to white fade technique.

I started with three different bases
on the left I covered the TAG with distress stains fired brick, in the middle I used the 'wrinkle free distress technique' (festive berries, fired brick, aged mahogany, barn door) with some water flicked onto and on the right I covered the tag with aged mahogany distress stains, but decided it was much too dark and uneven so I dipped it into the rest of the ink on my craftmat and flicked some water onto it, too.
Nothing new so far ...

Then I embossed the tags.
again from the left to the right:
clear embossing powder, black utee (wanted to go for an imperfect look for my TIO tag), ordinary black powder.

At last I had a try on the abovementioned technique on the clear embossed one and the one in the middle (which is now the final entry for TIO and which I didn't take a pic of at this step ...).

I didn't cover the last one, wanted to keep that look, just inked the edges a little bit with black soot.

And another very different one for good measure while I had my heat tool out, silver on black :-D now I don't know how to finish this one :-) looks much too 'noble' for me

all background stamps are cover a card stamps by impression obsession.

Perhaps some of you will give it a try.

  2. Wow, love the experimentation. Some gorgeous stuff there and I would be hard pressed to choose a favourite as they are all so scrummy. The lat one is lovely but if you wanted to bring it in line with the others to make a set I would add red fibres and maybe a red trim around the edges.
Sorry to hear about the pertussis (had to look it up, how awful for you) - hope you are soon over it and back to normal. Keep crafting.

  4. I love your experiments Suzanne. Not sure which one I like best but the one with the ordinary black powder is really unusual and I think may be that's the one I would go for first. The black on silver is stunning too but I would probably only use small pieces of it at a time because it so richly patterned - on reflection I like them all!!!

  5. Yup I like them all too. I think my favourite would be the one with the ordinary black powder, but they will all make beautiful backgrounds x
